Happy Anniversary Benny Kong!

Happy Anniversary Benny Kong! 〰️

It’s been three years since BENNY KONG went live and the first blogpost was released. Three years ago, I invited you cordially to join me on my personal Nintendo journey.

I thank all of you who followed this invite from the bottom of my heart - thank you for reading my thoughts on current Nintendo news, speculations on new releases or announcements such as Nintendo Direct presentations, retro game playthroughs or my updates on my growing physical Nintendo games collection.

Thank you for your engaging comments that mean the world to me. As BENNY KONG’s aim is to collect and preserve my Nintendo content in a format that is accessible for anybody (independently the social media platform used), your comments show that the topic is relevant to you - and that’s a rewarding feeling for any writer! Thank you for this!

To celebrate three years BENNY KONG, I am proud to announce three updates:

First, as the OG readers of you might have spotted already - BENNY KONG got a major upgrade! BENNY KONG was working hard behind the scenes and levelled up to enhance your reading experience. The website relaunched completely - and I would like to thank BYBAMBY for all her love, work and commitment to make this relaunch a success! Please let us know how you like the new design.

Second, going also a bit along with the relaunch: During the last three years I noticed that my ambition to document which Nintendo games, may it be Nintendo Switch, last gen such as the Wii or Wii U, or even retro games such as Super Nintendo or GameCube titles, that I added to my physical collection - or even which games I’m planning to buy and put on my Nintendo Switch wishlist, my #SwitchList, was not sustainable. Same for the idea to review games.

As I especially released blog posts over the previous three years that basically allowed me to cover any Nintendo related topic: May it my thoughts on a game that I’m currently playing to inspire you, like for the Nintendo Switch or a retro game such as Donkey Kong Country, or giving my predictions on possible courses for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass, I decided that I will solely blog on the relaunched BENNY KONG website from now on. So BENNY KONG 2.0? Not entirely!

Third, BENNY KONG goes Web3! As shared with you in a blog post in October 2020, I’m very interested in Blockchain technology such as Bitcoin, Ethereum or Solana. For roughly 5 years I've been investing both my time and money into this technology: Basically on a daily basis I’m studying the space, educate myself on new use cases of blockchain technology (or to be accurate: Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT)), such in the field of finance to generate passive income, digital ownership such as NFTs or virtually realities such as Metaverses.

Many blockchain projects or companies are considered as cryptocurrencies and as a form of emerging asset class you can speculate with, but most importantly should blockchain technology be considered as software. Software you certainly can invest in, that you can use for payments - but that will also enable a ton of other use cases. But that’s something for later blog posts. ;)

As a key takeaway for today:

All blockchain-based activities can be described as an evolution of the Internet that we currently know - and this new iteration of the Internet is called Web3. As I’m trying out a lot of products and services, and I’m pretty amazed by some applications, I would like to use BENNY KONG to share some of my experiences with my readers. I hope that these BENNY KONG blog posts covering Web3 content will make you curious and motivate you to also dip your toes a bit into this new waters.

We are still very early in the Web3 phase and especially users that are participating early will be rewarded the most - and I’d like YOU to be one of these users. But! It’s undoubted that there is a certain risk when using crypto-related applications. Many services are still in an experimental stage - and you are a pioneer when using nascent technology. Also undoubtedly it’s clear that blockchain technology is here to stay, and its adoption and mainstream utilization is inevitable. Or in other words: Web3 is not coming, it’s already here!

BENNY KONG wants you to participate in this new technology - and embrace it! Additional pocket money that you might create directly (returns) or indirectly (education) can easily be put in your next video game purchase - and that’s why I think BENNY KONG can combine the topics around Nintendo video gaming and Web3 perfectly.

BENNY KONG 3.0 - BK3!

I hope you will enjoy the additional content - in a new set up! Do you like the new design? Any thoughts on Web3, experiences with NFTs - or maybe you already own some Crypto?  Happy to learn more about this in the comment section!

PS: In case you are wondering where the featured image of this blogpost is from: It’s actually taken from a fan-made HD Remaster video of the level “Bramble Scramble” in Donkey Kong Country 2, created by BlobVanDam. Check it out if this is new to you!
