The Best Nintendo 64 Games for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
With the recent release of Wave Race 64 for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, I asked myself which other titles should be added to the Nintendo Switch Online Nintendo 64 library.
Nintendo’s 64-bit home console from 1996 is one of my favourite video gaming consoles of all time and marks a milestone of young-me playing video games back in the day, so there are indeed a lot of titles to pick from. To be exact, there exist 388 games for the Nintendo 64 in total, when combining all regions (North America (N), Europe (PAL) and Japan (J)).
In order to create a wishlist of Nintendo 64 that are needed to play via Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) + Expansion Pack and make so unbelievable gaming experience accessible to a younger audience that hasn’t grown up with the Nintendo 64, my approach was the following:
Which games were the most influential games of the respective console generation?
Which games are still considered timeless classics?
Which games did I play like a maniac as a teenager - either in single or multiplayer?
Which games are in my personal video games collection?
Which games do I still need to add to my physical collection?
Additionally I tried to balance this list by having games across different genres, such as action, 3D platformer, racing, various sports such as football, soccer, basketball, tennis, golf, snowboarding, ice-hockey, party and board games, beat’em up, puzzle and so one. What I have not considered to come up with for this list are potential licensing issues that may hinder a re-release, such as for sports or Disney games.
