Claim a Aptos Testnet NFT - for Free!
Hey frens!
This is rather a short one without going into too much details as you are used from BENNY KONG - or as we are in the Web3 context and talk about Crypto: As you are used from BK3 ;-)
Today I want to quickly share with you a great possibility to claim a NFT for free - using the testnet of the Aptos Blockchain!
I don’t know if every reader is already using DeFi (Dezentralized Finance) or is owning any NFTs (Non-fungible Tokens) yet, but here's a cool and handy opportunity to test a testnet in combination with a Crypto wallet - completely for free and without any risks.
So continue reading to play a bit around, claim a free NFT and get maybe even further rewarded in case testnet users will be surprised with an airdrop as a thank you later on!
What is Aptos?
Aptos (https://aptoslabs.com/) aims to be one of the fastest blockchains and is heavily backed ($350 million in funding, no token launch) from VCs such as Coinbase Ventures, FTX, a16Z, Jump etc, and plans to be live on mainnet in Q3/22.
The Aptos team wants to create a Layer 1 Blockchain for everyone, meaning creating universal and fair access to decentralized assets for billions of people. The Aptos web3 stack is aiming to be vast and rich, from smart contract platforms to developer infrastructure and tooling, wallets, and decentralized applications.
By achieving this, the team believes that the user experience needs significant improvement in today’s standards in matters of safety and scalability in order to reach the masses (especially the non-crypto natives).

Setting up a Aptos Wallet
In order to interact with blockchain, you need a compatible wallets that can be used to sign transactions, store and send coins and tokens, or NFTs.
To interact with the Aptos blockchain and claim your Testnet NFT, I’m recommending to use Martian Wallet (https://martianwallet.xyz/) - the most trusted Aptos wallet. Enter the Aptos ecosystem simply with a browser extension and you are good to go to interact with dApps (decentralized apps)!
Download the extension easily for Chromium-based browsers, such as Google Chrome or Brave following as indicated on the Martian website.
Follow the prompts carefully to create your Martian Wallet.
In case you have never created a Crypto Wallet, please note the following:
Do use a fresh password that you have never used for any other application before.
Don’t copy-paste the 12 words that will be given to you (private key)! Don’t take a photo! Don’t save it digitally anywhere, such in a notes app or your email! Don’t share these words with family and friends - as who ever has access to this 12 words, hence your private key, has access to your wallet (like your bank account) and can do whatever they like with it.
So do take a good old pen and paper and put the words down and save the paper in a safe place.
For future wallet-website-interactions I would like to give you the advise that you always have to pay close attention which blockchain transactions you are signing, meaning basically agreeing to. In this Aptos-Website (the Aptos blockchain!) testnet scenario that’s easy as you can see in the reference transaction that you agree to via your brand new Martian Wallet:
Approval Requests:
You interact with Aptos, so the requesting party is Aptos.
When you plan for instance in the future to buy a NFT via Opensea, the largest NFT marketplace - the requesting party has to be Opensea as well. In case any other website that you never heard of ask you to confirm something, you better run and do not confirm anything!
The likelihood is high that some bad actor wants has lured you on a page that looks like Opensea but is not and wants you to sign something in order to get control over your wallet to some extent.
So always check links, and be always alerted and careful.
As all of may sounds a bit scary - that’s why I thought this completely free NFT mint and a risk-free test set up is a good opportunity to get your feet wet a bit with these Web3 mechanics!

That’s my Aptos ZERO Testnet NFT! Beautiful.
Now What?
When you made it to this step and you own now your Aptos ZERO Testnet NFT, you are ready for Web3 and can congratulate yourself! You set up a wallet, interacted with a blockchain and claimed a NFT - that’s a great start.
It can be that this NFT will have some value in the future! Maybe.
One of today’s NFT Blue Chips Collections, CryptoPunks could be for instance minted for free in mid-2017 - and some NFTs are now priced over $100.000 in Ethereum. I’m not saying that any NFT that can be minted for free will have some financial value years later, but I’m saying that there are opportunities. And in particular when there are opportunities to learn for free, to not put any money on the line - you should go for these free learning opportunities.
There is also the chance that you will be airdropped a goodie from the Aptos team as you were testing their testnet and NFT functionally. Maybe.
I’m not saying there will be an airdrop (some free tokens or free NFTs sent to your wallet), but also in the past people have been rewarded for using testnet networks. The popular blockchain Avalanche launched their testnet for instance back in 2020 and gave free AVAX token on the mainnet to testers later. Some testnet participants were rewarded with tokens worth of $100.000. Insane!
For sure, these are exceptional cases - but they are chances. So it can pay out to play a bit around with testnets and get paid for it - especially when not much have to be done. So time will tell.
I hope you found this content valuable and consider claiming a Aptos NFT for free!
When you are participating in any interesting testnet activates or airdrops - please let me and other BENNY KONG readers know in the comments sections. Let’s get cryptofit together and learn together.
