Nintendo Direct September 13, 2022 - Predictions & Wild Guesses

What a surprise! Nintendo revealed yesterday that they will be treating us today, September 13, 2022, with a brand-new Nintendo Direct. Again September!

Nintendo didn’t do a presentation since February this year and there was no E3 presentation 2022 either - so it’s going to be very interesting to learn what Nintendo is planning to release this winter.

And by this winter, I’m speculating that Nintendo Switch games with a release date by end of March 2023 will fall into the “this winter” category.

As this is always fun - let’s have a look what can be expected to see in today’s Nintendo Direct presentation (watch here) or what I’m especially most looking forward to.

There will be also some wild guesses, but please note that all of this is speculation, and this list is far from exhaustive.

Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Let’s start with this one! Remember June 15, 2021? Exactly, this was the last time we saw new footage of the anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda - Breathe of the Wild.

For today’s Direct, I’m hoping to see a new trailer and that we get the official launch date, will currently have a Spring 2023 place holder. So is March 2023 still winter or already spring? We will see!

A release window of Q1/2023 was by the always my best guess, even long before Nintendo officially announced this March, that the title will be delayed to spring 2023:

More The Legend of Zelda Titles!

Nintendo announced once, that there will be every year a new Zelda game - and indeed there have been good times for Zelda & Link fans on Nintendo Switch:

  • 2017: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

  • 2018: Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition

  • 2019: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

  • 2020: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

  • 2021: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

So what can we expect for 2022?

I’m guessing we will get the rumored ports or remasters from the Nintendo GameCube or Wii area, meaning:

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, both on 1 Nintendo Switch card. Sold as a double pack! As both titles were re-released as HD Version for Wii U, a release for Nintendo Switch could be likely.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was released for Nintendo GameCube and Wii in 2006, and as a HD remaster for Wii U in 2016.

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was released for Nintendo GameCube in 2002, and as a HD remaster for Wii U in 2013.

New System Announcement for Nintendo Switch Online

Will there be a new system announcement for Nintendo Switch online? Heavily rumored is the addition of Game Boy, Game Boy Color and/or Game Boy Advance titles.

Will Nintendo surprise us with all three games from all three Game Boy systems? Today we will know more!

On my personal wishlist for a new Nintendo Switch Online system would be by the way the Nintendo GameCube. But honestly I think that GameCube titles have still more potential for ports or remasters, and Nintendo could sell them at a higher price point separately - as pointed out with the The Legend of Zelda games.

Metroid Prime

I keep this rather short as it’s basically back and forth since years:

Will we finally see the long awaited Metroid Prime: Trilogy HD Collection?

Given that Nintendo surprisingly released Metroid Dread for Nintendo Switch last year in October 2021, and a Metroid 4 might be released together with a new Nintendo Switch variant that is more performant (for instance a Nintendo Switch Pro, LOL) in 2024, the Trilogy HD Collection might be the perfect title for 2023 to bridge the gap and familiarize especially jounger gamers with a 3D Metroid.

Mystery titles

This category is our all time favorite, right? Exactly. As my wild guesses I’m going for these two titles:

F-Zero GX

F-Zero GX, a Nintendo GameCube remaster, but enriched with online play, could be a possibility to test the waters for Nintendo if there is user base.

On Twitter we see that there is a fan base around this franchise, so let’s add “paying” user base here. In my mind a port or remaster is a great way to actively explore if a complete new entry into the IP makes sense.

So a F-Zero GX Remade - low risk, but high reward for Nintendo if you ask me!

A New Donkey Kong Game!

Can you remember that it was heavily rumored in 2021 that the Super Mario Odyssey team was supposedly working on a new Donkey Kong game?

At this point no further information leaked, or were covered, but for sure, we need a new Donkey Kong game. Best case: A 3D adventure!

Kirby made the jump into 3D on Switch this year impressively, so what not good old DK and his friends? I’d love that!

DK (you know him well!) and his crew! Huh!

Alternatively, I’d be also great to get a Donkey Kong Country Trilogy HD Remaster Collection that contains remasters of the SNES series at some point though - but given that these games can be already played on Nintendo Switch Online, such release would only be about preservation and not new content.

Show them what you get, Dixie and Diddy!

And there you have it! What are your predictions or wild guesses? Please let me know! Let's see which games Nintendo will reveal later this day.

I wish you all a great Nintendo Direct day.
